all for dough?
I´ve been reading an article in a newspaper about the spanish socialist government plans in order to avoid the brain drain. Most of the measures were made to improve the retribution system and the acknowledgement for research workers, so they rather prefer to stay in their own country (Spain) than leaving abroad.
Reading it, I wonder why do “the best” leave, is it only a matter of money?. If I were them I wouldn´t do it only because of the money. I´d be looking for learning, for being surrounded for the best professionals, people who inspire me, excellences practises in best place to work, growth possibilities, where productivity is the highest value, where my superior trust me and support my personal and professional developement, keeping free time to practise my personal hobbies, allowing innovation within my professional environment, where the mistakes are not punished but used as a way to learn, working with humility, nobility and honesty, ... and many other things. I know all these seems to be a list of desires, far from the reality, but at the end, it is what every professional is looking for. You are lucky if you can find it in your own country, if not, the best way to get it is trying abroad.
Finally, I ask myself ... is it just money the solution to the brain drain? I don´t know, but we must think in a B plan in case this measure doesn´t work. Get to work!!.
